Support for the people who support everyone else.

Managers carry their teams’ worries as well as their own. I bring a counsellor’s ear and a clinical supervisor’s structure into your organisation, so the people holding things together have somewhere to put what they carry.

Why it matters

Most employers are trying. Half say it isn’t working.

964,000

workers in Great Britain had work-related stress, depression or anxiety in 2024/25, losing 22.1 million working days.

9.4 days

average absence per employee in 2025, up from 5.8 in 2022. Mental ill health is the leading cause of long-term absence.

50%

of organisations that act on stress believe their measures actually work. Staff point to workload and line management.

Why a counsellor

Clinical depth, without the jargon.

Behind my work are thousands of counselling sessions, a year in NHS primary care and clinical supervision of other counsellors. Supervision is how my profession looks after the people who look after others. The same approach works for managers and HR teams.

Before counselling I spent my career in customer-facing roles, so I understand commercial pressure from the inside. I keep things practical, confidential and human.

What I offer

Four ways I can help.

Reflective supervision for managers and HR

A regular, confidential space, one-to-one or in a small group, to think through the people issues that stay with you after work, before they turn into absence or conflict.

Supportive conversations workshop

A practical half day for line managers: noticing when someone is struggling, opening the conversation, listening well and knowing where to signpost.

Support after a difficult event

When a colleague dies or something serious happens at work, I can be with your team quickly, offer a calm space to talk and point people to the right ongoing help.

Culture and stress listening review

Confidential conversations with your staff, mapped against the HSE’s six areas of work-related stress, with a short, honest report and clear next steps.

Your legal duty

Helping you meet the HSE Management Standards.

Employers have a legal duty to assess and act on the risk of work-related stress. The HSE Management Standards look at six areas, and my work gives you insight into each of them:

  • Demands · workload and pace
  • Control · say over how work is done
  • Support · from managers and peers
  • Relationships · conflict and behaviour
  • Role · clarity and expectations
  • Change · how it is handled

How we work together

Simple, clear and confidential.

  1. A conversation

Thirty minutes, free. You tell me what is going on; I tell you honestly whether I can help.

  2. A proposal

A short written outline of what I will do, for whom, when and at what cost. No surprises.

  3. The work

Delivered in person across Torbay and Devon, or online, at times that suit your team.

  4. A review

We look at what has changed and agree whether to continue, adjust or stop.

Confidential by design: anything individuals share with me stays with me, and I report themes, never names. I don’t provide personal counselling to staff of organisations I advise; if someone needs it, I will help them find the right support.

A first conversation

Let’s talk about your people.

Thirty minutes, free and confidential. Tell me what is happening in your team and I will tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
