Frequently asked questions

A few things you might be wondering.

Warm, straightforward answers about counselling, couples work and clinical supervision.

General

Where do sessions take place?

I see clients in person at my private practice in Torquay, Devon, and I also work online for those who’d find it more convenient. For online sessions, all you need is somewhere private and a reliable connection.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. What we talk about stays between us. As a registered counsellor I work within the BACP Ethical Framework, which means there are rare, specific exceptions (for example if there’s a serious risk of harm), and I’ll always be open with you about those.

How do I get started?

Get in touch and we’ll arrange a free, no-pressure intro call. It’s a chance to see how we might work together before you commit to anything.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Your session time is held exclusively for you, so I operate a strict 48-hour cancellation policy: please give at least 48 hours’ notice to change or cancel, or the session is charged in full.

How many sessions will I need?

There’s no set answer. It depends on you and what you’re bringing. Some people come for a few focused sessions; others value a longer relationship. We’ll keep checking in on what’s helping.

Are you qualified and registered?

Yes. I’m a BACP Registered Member and MNCS Professional Accredited, I hold an Advanced Diploma in Counselling, and I’m a qualified clinical supervisor.

Individual counselling

What can I bring to counselling?

Anything that’s weighing on you: anxiety, low mood, loss and bereavement, life changes, relationship difficulties, or simply a sense of feeling stuck.

How long are sessions, and what do they cost?

Individual sessions last one hour and cost £60.

What approach do you use?

I’m an integrative therapist, so I don’t fit you to a single method. I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches (including CBT and others) and shape the work around you.

Do I need to know what’s “wrong” first?

Not at all. Plenty of people arrive simply knowing something doesn’t feel right. Making sense of it together is part of the work.

Couples counselling

How does couples counselling work?

It’s a space for the two of you to talk, to really hear one another, to work through conflict and rebuild intimacy. I help you both feel heard and slow things down enough to understand what’s happening between you.

How long are sessions, and what do they cost?

Couples sessions typically last 90 minutes and cost £75.

Can we come if things feel really difficult between us?

Yes. You don’t have to be on the brink, and you don’t have to be calm and tidy about it either. With specialist training in couples work and psychosexual therapy, I can support you through the harder conversations.

Can I come on my own to work on my relationship?

You can. Sometimes it helps to begin individually, and I’m happy to work that way.

Clinical supervision

Who is supervision for?

Qualified counsellors in private practice, trainees building supervised hours toward qualification, and experienced practitioners wanting a fresh, grounded perspective.

Do I really need ongoing supervision?

In the UK, yes, and it’s by design. The BACP Ethical Framework treats supervision as essential to good practice for the whole of your working life, however experienced you are.

What actually happens in supervision?

We make room for three things: keeping your practice safe and ethical, growing your skills, and looking after you through the emotional demands of the work: the normative, formative and restorative functions of good supervision.

What’s your experience?

Behind our conversations are thousands of sessions of my own client work, across individual and relationship therapy, primary care, and bereavement support. I supervise from the chair, not just the textbook.

How long are sessions, and what do they cost?

Supervision is £60 for a one-hour session or £75 for a 90-minute session, held in person in Torquay or online, one to one.

Do you offer group supervision?

No. I offer one-to-one supervision only, so the space is entirely yours.

Still have a question?

Just ask.

I’m always happy to talk it through before you decide anything.
